Spartans downs a feisty Uloom

Despite an early lead, Uloom found itself facing a mighty come-back.

The Newcastle Social Soccer League (NSSL) has reached the knockout stages, and the action this weekend promises to be intense.

Malawi FC aims to finish strong against Uloom FC at 13:30 on Sunday (August 28), Legends hopes for a clean sheet against Zim Stars at 14:30, and the main game is a suburb derby between Fairleigh United and Spartans at 15:30.

The NSSL’s Mervyn Maharaj said the Fairleigh/Spartans clash would be one for the ages, and encourages supporters and enthusiasts to attend the game. The action takes place at the Fernwood Grounds.

During the latest round of matches on August 21, Zim Stars went down 4-0 to league-topping Malawi. Legends FC mustered a 2-1 win over Fairleigh United but let many opportunities go to waste.

The main game of the day was between Uloom and Spartans. Despite an early charge from Uloom which left the Spartans faithful silent, a magnificent come-back saw Spartans claim a famous 4-2 victory.
