Teams qualify for rugby cup final

Highlanders I and II edged past Piet Retief with a pair of narrow victories.

The first and second teams of the Newcastle Boschpick Highlanders claimed victory against Piet Retief at the weekend.

Head Coach, Andrè Swanepoel said Highlanders I and II were fortunate to have won their matches by two points respectively, despite playing poorly due to the extremely windy conditions. Even with the win factor, he was pleased that the teams pushed through.

In basic rugby terms – a win is a win,” he quipped.

A number of Highlanders players were also chosen for the Pumas Amateur Team, namely Daniel Halforty, Fernando Filipe, Moses Mlanzi, Wandile Nkosi, Gift Mabaso and Shaka Nkosi. They will be part of the team facing the amateur Lions in Barberton on August 20 and in Johannesburg on September 17.

Swanepoel will be the head coach for the side.
