Osizweni takes ‘refuge’ in tourney win –

Last Saturday (June 11), the City of Refuge Over-45 Tournament kicked off, with four teams in contention. Newcastle Legends, Osizweni, Madadeni and Estcourt were all eager to claim victory.

Legends and Madadeni got the games underway and after a tough encounter, the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Osizweni next edged out Estcourt 1-0 in a nerve-wracking game between the long-time rivals.

In the second round, Osizweni hammered Legends 5-0 to advance to the finals, while Madadeni trounced Estcourt 7-0. In a hotly-contested final, Osizweni defeated Madadeni by a narrow score of 2-1.

I am pleased with the outcome of the tournament,” said City of Refuge spokesperson, Pastor Ronnie Naicker. “Well done to Osizweni Masters – the champions of the City of Refuge cup.”
