Mistakes costs Newcastle Highlanders dearly

A late charge by Middelburg put hopes of a home pitch rugby victory to rest.

Mistakes costs Newcastle Highlanders dearly –

The Newcastle Boschpick Highlanders missed out on a few opportunities against Middelburg Rugby Club on Saturday (May 28).

The match began with traded penalties, with the first quarter ending 6-3 to Middelburg. By the half-time break however, the visitors enjoyed a five-point lead (18-13).

Highlanders rallied in the second half and regained the lead heading into the final quarter. Yet a few telling errors – including cynical play which led to the awarding of a penalty try – allowed Middelburg to regain the lead.

With only a few minutes on the clock, Middelburg crossed the whitewash a final time to take the game out of Highlanders’ reach.

The final score at the whistle was 34-21 to the visitors. Highlanders will now need to dig deep to regain control of the season.
