NEWCASTLE KZN: Cycle Tour under the treads for local cyclists

For some, finish was emotional while for others, there was a sense of gratitude.

Despite some cramping and exhausted legs, local cyclists have conquered the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

The two teams featured in the Newcastle Advertiser recently have all reported finishing the race. Congratulations to Ronnie Anderson, Phyllis Kirkland, Chantall Meikle-Braes, Norman Forbes, Sam Shaw, Johan Pieters, and Romano Raghoo (and anyone other locals who entered!).

Chantall described race day as hot, beautiful with minimal to no wind, and tough. For some, she added, the finish was emotional while for others like her, there was a sense of gratitude.

“Chapman’s Peak was exhausting for myself and Ronnie. The others say Suikerbossie [Pass] was the worst climb… It’s the final climb before the home stretch. All I know is that the end is just over that hill and that’s my motivation.”

As ‘survivors’ of the cycle tour, Chantall and her team celebrated with drinks afterwards and called both the experience and race ‘amazing’.
