NEWCASTLE: Here’s what you need to know about Oval Track racer, Shaukat Khan

The Newcastle Oval Raceway will host a meet this weekend, November 7.

Chairman of the Oval Track committee, Shaukat Khan is anxious to get back on track after an 18 month hiatus.

A dynamic racer, with a passion for motorsport, Khan said his duties as chairman meant he had to take a back seat over the past year and a half. Read all about his journey with racing in this week’s edition of the Newcastle Advertiser, on sale from November 5.

Here are some things you need to know about Shaukat Khan:

Career: He is the manager of Allen Street Motors

Hobbies: Apart from Oval Track racing, Shaukat enjoys fishing

Family: Shaukat and Zaakira have been married for “the best 10 years of my life” and have one son, Uzair (9) – he said: “A family that races together, stays together!”

Favourite food: All Indian food

Favourite local vacation destination: “I absolutely love Cape Town.”

Role model: “I’m a huge fan of Marc Marquez and I admire his passion for racing.”

Motto in life: “I want to keep challenging myself, as I am my own competition.”

Favourite movie: Anything starring Gerard Butler

Education: A diploma in IT and PC Engineering

How his family and friends would describe him: Soft hearted

If he won the Lotto tomorrow: “I would build my son, wife and myself the best race cars ever!”

Due to the rain this past weekend, the first Oval Track race meet was postponed to this coming weekend (November 7). This pulse-pounding event will be held in honour of frontline medical staff and tickets already purchased will be carried over to this weekend’s race. Get this week’s edition for more information.
