VRYHEID: Athletes in full stride and back in the groove

Congratulations to Bongani for winning the Natalia Meatmasters sponsorship

Vryheid Athletics Club is back in full stride. Athletes are keeping to their normal routine, running from BP Service Filling Station at 5am on Mondays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, groups run at either 4.30am or 5am from ‘the flats’ up Lancaster hill.
On Saturdays, athletes have their normal long runs, starting at 5am from BP Filling Station. Please bring your own water.
On Thursday afternoons, club runs will start at 5.30pm from the clubhouse at Pionier, with regulations in place. Temperature testing and hand sanitizing will be done.
At the time trial last Thursday, the first seven athletes were: Marlene Beän – 25:05; Amanda Vergottini – 25:05; Annatjie Venter – 30:08; Bongi Zulu – 30:12; Bongani Masimango – 21:08; Jayd Scheepers – 23:26; Casper Louw – 24:24.
Congratulations to Bongani for winning the Natalia Meatmasters sponsorship.
What to look forward to:
Vryheid trail runners will take part in their second event by running the iMfolozi Outrun stage run this weekend. It comprises a 20km on Saturday and 16km on Sunday.
The Sani Stagger Trail Run has also been given the go-ahead on November 21, so get your entries in. This Sunday, some VAC athletes will also take part in the VIRTUAL Cape Town Marathon by running 42.2km around the Vryheid Mountain and imagining Table Mountain. #iyashisa VAC
The Comrades Marathon next year will be on June 13.
It will be the 95th running and 100th year anniversary of the Comrades Marathon, so it will be a very special ‘down run’.
The Comrades was run for the first time on May 24, 1921, and has been run every year since, with the exception of World War II and unfortunately 2020.
