VRYHEID: Players pin those darts during championship

The atmosphere was relaxed, but with a competitive edge

Vryheid Rugby Club is not yet authorised to host rugby matches in lockdown level 1, hence they made an alternative plan to get some other sporting events up and running again.
On Saturday, locals had the opportunity to compete in the Vryheid Rugby Club Darts League Championship. A total of eight teams and about 14 singles players entered the competition. Some of the players were novices compared to those who were seasoned and experienced, but because of ‘rusty fingers’, most of them had a few practice rounds before the competition started in earnest.
The atmosphere was relaxed, but with a competitive edge. While the parents tested their skills on the dart board, the children could safely play on the rugby field.
The results are as follows:
Doubles champions: Eugene Barnard and Immile Diedericks. Singles (men): Eugene Barnard. Singles (women): Chene Smith. Highest score: Wayne Vergottini with 171.
