Dundee wins Spring bowls tournament in Vryheid

The camaraderie and atmosphere among the bowlers was palpable!

The annual Spring Bowls Tournament was held at Vryheid Bowling Club this past Saturday. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 regulations, the format of the tournament had to be changed.

The tournament was played over one day instead of two, and teams could only enter three players in a team and not four. Nonetheless, the Vryheid Club managed to host an excellent tournament, looking after the eager bowlers’ every need, with most playing in a sponsored tournament for the first time since lockdown.

The camaraderie and atmosphere among the bowlers was palpable! Three games of 12 ends were played in beautiful spring conditions. At the end of the day’s play, scores were tallied and Dundee’s Rita Meyer’s team was announced as the winner of the 2020 Spring Tournament.

They amassed 29 points out of a possible 30 points! All the other Dundee teams finished in the top 10 – a great feat indeed! Thank you to the Vryheid Bowling Club for their hospitality and a well organised tournament.

Dundee will certainly be back in 2021! Zone Pairs A number of pairs teams will travel to Newcastle this coming weekend to compete in the Northern Zone men’s and ladies’ pairs competition. Good bowling and safe travels to those who will be competing. Upcoming events: Zone Pairs – September 12 and 13 in Newcastle.
