The ultimate human race goes virtual
But their spirits were still high and they ventured out on a freezing Sunday morning, as they would've during the traditional Comrades race
Since the traditional Comrades Marathon was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) launched a virtual ‘Race The Comrades Legends’ race, which took place on Sunday. An astonishing 40,000 entries from 86 nations were received, and athletes from all over the globe participated in ‘The Ultimate Virtual Race’. Athletes from Vryheid Athletic Club also took part in their own virtual races. Unfortunately, athletes were not allowed to run in large groups and everyone had to arrange their own water points and assistance along the different routes. But their spirits were still high and they ventured out on a freezing Sunday morning, as they would’ve during the traditional Comrades race.
