‘For the love of bikes we ride’

Our family revolves around biking

Husband and wife team Radley and Jessica Davids have a taste for the open road. The pair is avid motorcyclists and have been part of the Ice Angels Motorcycle Club Estcourt for seven years.

When the couple met over a decade ago, Radley was a motorcyclist and after tying the knot, Jessica joined him on rides. They have been married for 11 years now and have two children, Tazlin (16) and Triano (9), who are also keen to follow in their parents’ footsteps.

We caught up with the couple to ask them about their love for bikes and where their adventures have taken them.

As a couple, what have been two of your most memorable rides together?
Our two most memorable rides were attending a rally in Ficksburg and going to Pongola.

What is it about biking as a couple that keeps your relationship stronger?
We both enjoy riding, so we spend a lot of time together. Mainly, we look out for each other. It’s good to do something we both love.

What is the one trip / ride / route the two of you would like to go on together?
The trip we would love to go on is a ride to Swaziland.

What are the advantages of being part of a club?
One of the benefits of being in a motorcycle club is forming part of a brother- and sisterhood. We have loyal friends we can rely on to help us in our hour of need and partners who can take off at a moment’s notice to enjoy a good ride.

The Smith and Davids families are avid bikers.

Besides motorcycles, what are some of the things your family enjoys doing together?
Our family revolves around biking; our children are also into biking and we have two of our nephews who all learnt to ride at a young age. The boys have their bikes and are riding in our club. When we are together as a family, we can spend hours talking about motorbikes. It has taught the children respect and discipline for two wheels. The motorbikes keep the children busy, from cleaning to maintaining their machines, which also keeps them out of mischief.

We also belong to a club called ‘Diparola Bikers on the Move’. The intention is to ride in good faith with a broad network of people and places, done safely.
