A celebration run for Bongi

Bongi said she wanted to do something significant for herself, as she will be finishing three decades of life

This past Saturday, three runners went on a special and unique social distancing run for one of their friends, Bongi Zulu.
Bongi’s birthday is June 3, when she turns 30! It’s winter, so it’s cold and dark in the mornings.
But for these Vryheid Athletics Club runners, this is all part of the excitement and the athletes love those chilly morning runs when they can dress up in layers of clothing and head out into the crisp morning air that winter brings with it.
It takes only about one or two kilometres to warm up and be comfortable, but this past week has been extra-chilly due to a cold front approaching. The reward is to see those first rays of the sun peeking over the horizon… and painting the sky, grass and trees in bright orange.
Bongi said she wanted to do something significant for herself, as she will be finishing three decades of life. So, due to the lockdown, she decided to run her first 30km as a pre-birthday celebration.
Her friends, Nocky Ndlela and Serine Halforty, joined her on the run.
