Swanepoel reported that players were eager to participate, and had started training from as early as January 10.
“Approximately 22 players have joined the club. An exciting season lies ahead. Highlanders I will have an opportunity to play in the Gold Cup this year, which is the national club championship,” he continued.
Highlanders will go up against Barberton at a premier game on March 28 at the Mbombela Stadium.
The fixtures for the season are as follows:
March 14 – Newcastle Highlanders versus Volksrust (away).
