A shower of love falls on Valentine’s Fun Run

Participants had the opportunity to dress up for the occasion and some runners went out of their way, marking Valentine's Day in every essence of the phrase.

Extreme weather conditions last year caused the Valentine’s Fun Run to be moved to a later date.
When Vryheid Athletic Club held its annual Valentine’s themed event last Tuesday, the weather yet again did not play along
Despite the rainy start however, it was a very successful and chilly Valentine’s Fun Run. Participants had the opportunity to dress up for the occasion and some runners went out of their way, marking Valentine’s Day in every essence of the phrase.
Runners and walkers of all ages entered for either a five kilometre or a 2,5km run or walk.
There was a cash prize on offer for the school with the most entries, and Lucas Meyer Primary School took the lead, with close to 50 children running or walking in the event. Bongani Msimango took the win in the 5km run, with Bongani Ndlovu second and Mandla Mnisi third.
Leah Domoney was first in the ladies’ division in the 5km run.
After the race, participants and their families could skip on cooking at home and purchase some takeaway food, while spending the rest of the night enjoying the festive atmosphere.
