Frances takes the double at cycling championships

She also managed to claim the road race title at the South African National Road Championships.

Vryheid has a South African cyclist again!
Cycling in the individual time trial and road race at the South African National Road Championships last weekend, Frances Janse van Rensburg achieved her goal by winning the Under-23 jersey in both events.
Frances said both races were ‘really really hard’, especially in the hot weather conditions, but she was incredibly happy with how the event went.
She thanked her team and coach, Johann Wykerd for all their support.
After the time trial, Frances then turned her focus towards the road race three days later.
She also managed to claim the road race title at the South African National Road Championships.
According to Frances, she crashed on the first lap while going around a corner.
This was due to the rain making the road surface wet and slippery.
At this point, she said, it felt like ‘game over’ for her.
The bunch attacked at that point, but she simply put her head down and chased back, working with another u-23 rider to eventually catch the group up.
On the following kilometres, there were numerous attacks on the short climbs with riders trying to get away, but it did not last.
Then on the last lap, with 10 kilometres to go, Frances decided to give it her all and managed to bridge back to the front bunch.
In the end, it came down to a mass sprint.
Frances said, “It was really close, but I’m over the moon to have been able to get the double win.”
Well done to this young lady.
The community is so proud to see her go from strength to strength.
