The Estcourt cricket team took on Ladysmith in a tough Promotional League battle on February 16 at Settlers Park.
Hot weather was predicted and the sun certainly pounded down on the players and the pitch. The umpire and team captains walked out to the middle for the toss, with Estcourt winning and opting to bat first on a wicket that slowly deteriorated as the day wore on.

Estcourt opening batsmen S Ullah and Prenay Kewalpersad got their team off to a flying start.

For their part, the Ladysmith lads had plenty of opportunities to get them out, but many catches went down, which allowed Estcourt to reach a formidable total of 203 for the loss of seven wickets. Even the eighth and ninth batsmen made runs.

Top scorers for Estcourt were Ullah with 50 and Kewalpersad with 44.

Pick of the Ladysmith bowlers were F Khan and R Hoosen, each claiming three wickets.

Ladysmith went in to bat to chase down the total in 50 overs, but fell far short, only making 121 runs and being bowled out in 28 overs.

Top run scorers for Ladysmith were P Zakwe with 23 and G Juggiah 19. The rest of the Ladysmith batsmen didn’t offer much resistance against the rampant Estcourt bowling attack.
