Play-off decides NKZN Golf Open’s champion

Top golfers from across the country were part of the the field of 75.

There was an exciting climax to the 91st Northern KZN Open, played over 36 holes in cool and sometimes rainy conditions on Sunday. Generously sponsored by Farmers Agri-Care, top golfers from across the country were part of the the field of 75.

Ryan Welsh and Nathan Todd were forced into a play-off to decide the winner, with Ryan taking home the honours. They were followed by Mlamuli Sithebe, Travis Welsh and Siyabonga Mdunge. It was local medical man, Dr Sifiso Kunene, who finished top of the B division.

The club thanked everyone who assisted with hosting this prestigious tournament, with special mention to Brian du Toit, Farmers Agri-Care and Jenny Ross, who arranged the catering. All players commented on the excellent condition of the course and credit was given to the club’s committee and staff.

Competition results: Saturday’s Club Competition, played in the form of an IPS, attracted a good field. The winners were as follows: first – M Ngidi on a good 40 points, second – K.P. Smith on 39 points, third – Kallie Roets on 38 points counted out from Thembinkosi Msweli. Two clubs were carded by Dan Scholtz on Hole 8, R van Rensburg Jnr, Neville Simons and Billy Francis on Hole 12, and Scele P Ndlovu.

Dave’s Competition was played on January 15 over 11 holes in the form of an IPS. The winners were as follows: first – Blessing Chiwaya on 24 points counted out from Gene Robson, third – Dan Scholtz on 23 points. The Chicken Run played on January 17, in the form of an IPS over 10 holes, was won by Sifiso Kunene on 21 points. Debbie Catlett finished second on 18 points.

January 22 – Dave’s Competition over 11 holes in the form of an IPS.
January 24 – Chicken Run over 10 holes in the form of an IPS.
January 25 – This Saturday’s Club Competition will be hosted in the form of a four ball better ball Stableford: get yourself a partner and enter.
