The heat is on as racers take to the drag strip

The second Heels & Helmets event for women took place on November 24

Racers from Vryheid are heating up the drag racing strip once again.
Despite the extremely hot conditions at both recent events, racers and their cars managed to survive the heat.
Most notable was 63-year-old Cathy de Beer, who initially only went along to support the team, but by lunchtime couldn’t resist and entered herself into a race.
The sound of spinning tyres and powerful turbos were enough to get her into the hot seat.
The second Heels & Helmets event for women took place on November 24, during which Cathy won in her category 4BF (four-cylinder front-wheel drive turbo) with a time of 12,82 seconds, at a speed of 187 kilometres per hour.
This was a personal best for her.
Shereece Esop won in her category 4AF (four-cylinder normally aspirated) with a time of 14,53 seconds at a speed of 152,1 km/h.
Endumeni Battle Fest then took place on December 1 in Dundee.
Four racers from Vryheid did very well and all received prizes:
Cathy de Beer was the fastest female racer, with Shereece Esop the second-fastest female of the day. Daniel de Beer took the chequered flag in the category 4BF (four-cylinder front-wheel drive turbo) in a time of 13 seconds flat, at a speed of 187,7 km/h.
Luwin Freeman won first prize in the category 4AF (four-cylinder normally aspirated) with a time of 14,04 seconds, clocking a speed of 152.0 km/h.

Cathy de Beer speeds to first place in the Heels & Helmets race.

Daniel de Beer takes the trophy for winning in the four-cylinder front-wheel drive division.

Luwin Freeman wins first prize in the four-cylinder normally aspirated division.

Shereece Esop is the second-fastest female racer at Dundee’s Battle Fest.

Cathy de Beer changes her mind and decides to race.
