Festive bowls wraps up a fine season

The five games played were all close affairs, with all teams in contention after the first two skins were played.

The last Fedauto monthly meat competition of the year was played on Saturday afternoon, in pleasantly cool and slightly drizzly conditions. The five games played were all close affairs, with all teams in contention after the first two skins were played.

A seven scored on the penultimate end turned out to be the decider for Monty Steele, Mike Martens, Gert Roos and Sampie van der Berg, giving them the winning score of nine points plus five.

Billy Nicholas, Trevor Douthwaite, Michelle Steele and Alex Zaal (8 + 5) finished second to also take home a prize.

Newcastle Bowling Club will host a Christmas bowls afternoon on Saturday, followed by a ‘crazy dice’ session from 6pm to 7pm and a bring and braai thereafter.

A turkey competition will be held next Monday (December 16) and all members are encouraged to attend, as the club will be closed until the New Year.
