Botha’s glorious century leads Zululand to victory

Jean Botha subsequently made his way to the crease, and went on to score a phenomenal century off 81 deliveries

Sunday’s limited over match between Zululand and Umtshezi (Estcourt) at Cecil Emmett Park, saw Zululand cement its lead in the current log standings.
Host, Zululand won the toss and sent Umtshezi in to bat first. Opening batsman for the visitor, Nabeel Mahmoud was the first to lose his wicket in the fourth over, caught off the bowling of Tiaan Erasmus after putting just seven runs on the board. Following Mahmoud’s early exit, the Estcourt side had a few notable performances at the crease by Lloyd Ramdeen, who scored 22 runs off 16 deliveries, Irshaad Mahomad, with 50 off 52, Munir Muhammad, who made 33 off 37 and Nadeem Muhammad, who scored 28 off 21. The most economical bowler for Zululand was Devin Aspden, who claimed two wickets for 13 runs in his three overs. Shane Pennington and Bruce Tembo also claimed two wickets each off each of their five overs, for 25 and 23 runs respectively. The remaining wickets fell to Tiaan Erasmus, Hubert Filter, Jacques Sander and Clifford Dougherty, who each took single wickets for Zululand. As its last wicket fell in the 33rd over and the batting innings came to an end, Umtshezi had racked up a score of 190 all out. Tertius Gubbels opened the batting for Zululand, accompanied by Joshua Stoltenkamp.
However, their partnership was short-lived after Stoltenkamp was trapped leg before the wicket for a duck, at the end of the first over.
Jean Botha subsequently made his way to the crease, and went on to score a phenomenal century off 81 deliveries, smacking 18 fours and one six to the boundary.
He stood at 104, before being caught by Nabeel Mahmoud off the bowling of Suvedh Ramprith.
Clifford Dougherty scored 20 off 31 balls before being caught and bowled by Lloyd Ramdeen, while Bruce Tembo was undefeated on 25 off 12 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Suvedh Ramprith was Umtshezi’s most economical bowler, with four wickets for 38 runs in his ten over spell.
Nabeel Mahmoud took one wicket for 30 in his five overs and Lloyd Ramdeen took two for 54 in 7,1 overs. Zululand managed to surpass Umtshezi’s total in 31.1 overs, scoring 196 for the loss of seven and winning the match by three wickets.
