Spring Business League bowls to an end

Play in the Summer League will resume in January next year.

Despite the welcome rain putting a slight damper on the final evening of the Fedauto Spring Business League, a good time was had by all thanks to the sponsors and organisers.

The popularity of the event was made evident, with entries for the summer event in 2020 already almost full.

The finals between the winners of each section saw Bowldilocks (26 + 24) beat Putt Putts (30 + 140) to take first prize.

Despite Putt Putts leading its section throughout the tournament, the format used meant it was not rewarded for its consistent play, finishing right out of the prizes.

Similarly in the play off between the second-placed teams, 4 Musketeers (24 + 84) and Bi Agri Smart (27 + 70), 4 Musketeers won the game to finish second, with Bi Agri Smart finishing nowhere!

Old Hooters finished third after beating Hillary, and Moths ended fourth after beating Eagles.

Play in the Summer League will resume in January next year.

Three Newcastle teams travelled to Ladysmith (Klipbank Bowling Club) recently to support its Defy Two Bowl Trips competition.

A pleasing entry of 22 teams participated in the event and in scorching heat, the winner was the local side of Veronica Malan and team (42 + 16), followed by Newcastle’s John and Trevor Douthwaite and Japie Dantuma (38 + 29) in second place.

Third spot was claimed by David and Jimmy Nel and Shenaz Singh (38 + 11).
