Uelzen Enduro puts off-road riders through their paces

The first Uelzen Enduro brought together those keen to test their off-road skills on a demanding course.

The day was all about the Springboks winning the Rugby World Cup, but at Uelzen it was all about roaring engines.

The first Uelzen Enduro brought together those keen to test their off-road motorcycling skills, on a demanding course set out by Frans Strydom and his team.

At 60, Frans is very experienced and was glad to assist in marking out an extreme loop (for the hardened riders), a silver loop for those who still wanted a real challenge, and a bronze loop for the amateur or inexperienced riders. Over 80 riders took on the three routes.

Keegan Donaldson claimed first position in the extreme category, followed by Craig Pedersen. Teagan Pillay, a Grade 7 learner at Uelzen Primary School, finished sixth in this category while Kyle Barsdorf (Grade 7 at Lucas Meyer Primary in Vryheid) finished ninth.

“Certainly a huge achievement for these boys.”

Six riders failed to complete the extreme route, but all said they would be back for next year’s event. Keegan’s father, Kevin Donaldson won the silver loop, with Marnus van Wyk second. Luke de Jager and Deetlef Steyn finished first and second respectively in the bronze category.

Uelzen thanked the following property owners for access to their land for the enduro: Arthur and Manfred Hellberg, Doem and Brian Greenhough, Emile Meyer, Hans Wessels and Correction Services.

With the Uelzen Enduro being such a success, organisers are sure it will become a regular event on the local motorcycling calendar.
