Visitors claim Kings bowls crown

The ever-popular Kings Sponsored Day, hosted by Newcastle Bowling Club, once again attracted a full field of 42 teams from Piet Retief, Dundee, Vryheid, Ladysmith, Volksrust and Newcastle.

At the end of play, it was the visiting teams who walked away with the honours, with Piet Retief’s Urcilla Mulder and Bertus and Flippie van Vreden taking first place.

They were followed by Aubrey Lindstroom’s team from Volksrust in second place, Katy Osborne’s Volksrust team in third and Willie Nel’s Dundee team in fourth.

Stephen Shaw, who played with his two young sons, Aspen and Denva, finished in a creditable fifth place. President, Monty Steele made special mention of the Kings Group for its continued support and generous sponsorship, and to all the teams for participating.

A number of Newcastle teams travelled to Ladysmith to play in Klipbank Bowling Club’s Hyper Packaging Trips tournament, with Ron and Alice Howe and Joan Schoon putting in a stout effort to finish second.

After eight rounds of the Fedauto Spring Business League, the top of the leader board is taking shape.

In Section 1, Bi Agri Smart is leading (16 + 52), followed closely by Putt Putts (14 + 81), Moths (14 + 71) and Old Hooters (12 + 17).

Section 2 is even more closely contested, with team Bowldilocks leading (14 + 50).

In close pursuit are the teams of Medvic (13 + 47), Icon Homes (13 + 12), 4 Musketeers (12 + 39) and Eagles (12 + 29).
