The under 17 tournament was sponsored by the Macksons Group as part of their programme to give back to the community.

Warriors (blue and white) take on Red Devils.

The teams came from Bergville, Estcourt, Emmaus, Ntabamhlophe and Wembezi.  The format was seven-a-side, playing a 20-minute match.

Juventus and TS Galaxy go head-to-head.

Planner and co-ordinator Themba Shabalala ensured the smooth running of the games, and says that great potential was evident on the field.

“Some of the teams were not familiar with the seven-a-side format, but saw this tournament as a learning experience that they will use when playing in their leagues,” said Mr Shabalala.

After a day of fast-paced action on the field, the final was contested between Warriors from Bergville and Royal Tigers from Wembezi.  Warriors won 1-0.  The victors walked away with a trophy, medals and cash, while Royal Tigers took home medals and training bibs.

“The tournament was a huge success. Even though it was very hot, the spectators stayed throughout the day. I would like to thank the Macksons Group for this gesture,” concluded Mr Shabalala.
