Detective du Plooy casts off at national competition

Sonya was part of the 10-woman KZN SAPS team which fished despite the inclement weather.

Detective Sonya du Plooy is not only good at tracking down suspects, but has proved to be just as adept as finding those elusive fish.

The Dundee-based police official placed 21st out of the 64 female anglers who competed in the National SAPS Women’s Fishing Competition at Bloemhof Dam, North West, from September 19 to 27. Sonya was part of the 10-woman KZN SAPS team which fished despite the inclement weather.

“The weather was very changeable from windy, stormy to hot, which impacted on fishing conditions. I managed to catch 22 fish including barbel and yellowtail, so overall it was a great experience.”

Sonya thanked all the sponsors who assisted her with costs to attend the tournament.
