Ladysmith AC wades in to take revenge

The next APL competition is League 3 on October 20.

On Spring Day, Ladysmith Angling Club got its revenge for previous defeat.

Richgate Park – VME League 2 – was the staging ground for the club’s comeback effort, which saw it trounce the opposition with 60 points, leaving Breakwaters in the shallows on 24 points.

Third place went to Challengers and Dannhauser (21 points each).

Organisers from the Angling Professional League (APL) said the turnout for Sunday’s event was excellent, with four of the six affiliate clubs fielding a full team of 25.

It was Ahmed Amedjee of Dannhauser who stole the show however. His monstrous carp tipped the scales at 4,742 kilograms, while Leon Rampersad of Ladysmith bagged a barbel of 6,018kg on a carp trace.

Both fish were safely released.

Veteran angler, Dan Govinder claimed the Angler of the Day title and with it, a R200 prize, the purple cap and his outright trophy.

The green cap is on the head of Ronnie Rampersadh (Breakwaters).

Ronnie is currently leading the pack in the race to the Senior Angler of the Year and Angler of the Year titles, although he will be keeping a close eye on Sudesh Singh (Ladysmith) and Leon, who are second and third respectively.

In terms of the league, Ladysmith is top on 22 points.

Breakwaters is in second place also on 22 points, ahead of Dannhauser on 15, Challengers on 13, and both Stillwaters and Glencoe on six apiece.

The next APL competition is League 3 on October 20.

Current top contenders for the season’s titles include Ahmed for the Heaviest Scaled Fish, Leon for the Heaviest Non Scaled Fish, Talia Boodhoo of Stillwaters (Junior Angler of the Year and Veruschka Boodhoo of Stillwaters (Lady Angler of the Year).
