‘Aim big to succeed’ is the motto that 23-year-old Suvedh Ramprith lives by.

While many people play cricket for the pure enjoyment or just socially, well not Suvedh. The lad who belongs to the Colita Cricket Club, which he captains, says cricket is his ‘happy place’.

“Cricket has always been my passion. This wonderful game has given me an escape from life to de-stress, enjoy and express myself,” he expressed with a sparkle in his eyes.

This young man’s passion for the game came about at the tender age of 10 back in 2006 while only in grade five.

“I would join my grandparents to watch cricket and from there I was hooked and just knew this is the sport for me. As I grew up, my love for cricket grew as well and that’s when I decided to start working towards building a playing career in the sport,” reminisced Suvedh fondly.

However, his focus has since taken a slight shift. Suvedh now aspires to become a professional coach. Currently, in the process of being certified as a Level 2 Cricket Coach is what sets Suvedh apart from the rest.
He possesses a stronger mindset, understanding that cricket is more than a ball throwing and ball catching sport.
Determined to share this with the rest of the team, he spends up to four to six hours a week coaching his teammates on physical and mental fitness.

With that said, he is currently employed as a sports coach and educator at Drakensview Primary School.
On the pitch, Suvedh’s major strength is bowling but he is also a batsman.

So hand him a bat or ball and watch his eyes light up with sheer excitement.

When asked what he thinks is key to being a good player, Suvedh answered confidently saying: “Passion, determination and drive are vital to keep excelling. Definitely good sportsmanship as well as the willingness to uphold the culture of the game is what I consider key to being a great player for any sport.”
