Langfontein clinches Bowls League top honours

Yet another successful Round Table Winter Knights campaign came to an end last Thursday evening. It was wonderful to see the Dundee Bowling Club clubhouse transformed in to a sea of donations...

The Northern Zone Open Fours was played in Vryheid this past weekend.

Two men’s and two women’s sides travelled to Vryheid, on a very icy cold Saturday morning. After sectional play was complete, it was the two Dundee women’s sides who found themselves in the final, while in the men’s section, it was two sides from Newcastle who made it through to the final.

It was decided by Northern Zone representatives the finals would be played in Dundee for the women and Newcastle for the men, which took place on Sunday. In the women’s final, it was Sylvia Malan and her team going head-to-head against Rita Meyer and her team.

After 15 tense ends were completed, it was Sylvia and her team who reigned victorious, beating Rita and her team 23 – 14 and earning the title of winner of the Northern Zone Ladies Open Fours Competition.

Both sides will represent the Northern Zone at the District Playoffs, to be hosted by Midlands Zone on June 29 and 30. John Douthwaite and his team won the men’s section – congratulations to all.

Final bowls rolled for Round Table Winter Knights

Yet another successful Round Table Winter Knights campaign came to an end last Thursday evening. It was wonderful to see the Dundee Bowling Club clubhouse transformed in to a sea of donations, in the form of pet food, groceries, blankets and many other goodies, all of which were donated to the beneficiaries. They are the SPCA, NG Kerk Glencoe, Dundee Adult Centre and the Dundee Crisis Centre.

As far as the bowls was concerned, it was Langfontein which walked away with the honours after beating Joff’s Skid Marks in the 1st/2nd playoff. Tristar came 3rd and Cherrybums 4th. Dundee Junior took the ‘stone’.

“Congratulations to all involved, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.”

More upcoming events: June 8 – Club Pro 10; June 22 – Pongola Sponsored Day.
