Athletes hit the trail at two-day ‘ultimate jol’

"The Oxpecker Trail Run is three different trail events, presented over three consecutive weekends at Em'seni, each weekend seeing some 800 runners and around 150 people extra supporting. Well done to all the Vryheid runners who took part."

Athletes had a great weekend at the Oxpecker Trail Run, a two-day stage run at Em’seni Drakensberg.

The event is comprised of two days of great trail running (over 16 and 20 kilometres) on single track and jeep roads, through aloe and thorn tree bushveld, in lovely pre-winter weather with great friends.
Emphasis is also placed on sharing good food and laughs, enjoying nature and celebrating life and good health.
Vryheid athletes described the event as ‘trail running at its best, at a super trail run sparing nothing to make it the ultimate jol’.

“The Oxpecker Trail Run is three different trail events, presented over three consecutive weekends at Em’seni, each weekend seeing some 800 runners and around 150 people extra supporting. Well done to all the Vryheid runners who took part.”

Vryheid runners, Ingrid Klingenberg, Colette
Terblanche, Lauren Glutz and Ronell Keeve sport beetroot medals at the end of the second run of the Oxpecker Trail Run.

Back on the road running scene, the Comrades Marathon is looming.

Club members are reminded of the Comrades dinner tonight (Thursday) at the club, which takes the place of the usual time trials.
Tickets will already have been bought and paid for.
On Saturday morning (June 1) at 5.30am, the Wimpy run starts from the outside Wimpy, which will also be in support of the local Comrades runners.

“Good luck to all our Comrades runners. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
