Farmers triumph in T20 cricket final

Captain, Kamran Haniff and Zabiulla Khan then put on a 24 run partnership, before the Tyron Terry and Braam Cronje show started

Farmers are the T20 champions for the 2018/2019 cricket season.

Farmers contested the final on Friday night against a game Paki Lions side.
Farmers were asked to bat first after Paki Lions won the toss and got off to a bit of a slow start. In the fourth over, they had only scored 10 runs when Chris Rosewall was dismissed for a 12 ball duck. Joff Davies then got to the crease and together with Peter Johnson, they put on a 62 run stand. Joff then lost his wicket for 14 and an over later, Peter was dismissed for 45 from 46 balls. His amazing innings included five 4’s and two 6’s. Four runs later Cameron Fogg was dismissed and two runs after that, Tyron Terry lost his wicket.

At the end of the 16th over, Farmers were 81/5 and things looked bleak. Kyle Kelbrick and Francois le Grange then put on a 19 run partnership before Francois was dismissed and Kyle and Gregg Hesom added a further 17 runs to take Farmers to 117/6 at the end of their innings.

Farhan Farooq was the pick of the Paki Lions bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 11 runs from four overs while Ashfaq Mohammed took 2/23 from his four overs.

Paki Lions

Needing just under 6 runs an over to claim victory and the T20 title, Paki Lions would have been fairly confident going in to bat. After three overs they were already 23 runs up, losing only the wicket of Saiffullah Khan in the process. Nathaniel Benjamin was next to fall for 10 runs, as Paki Lions were 29/2 after 5 overs.

Captain, Kamran Haniff and Zabiulla Khan then put on a 24 run partnership, before the Tyron Terry and Braam Cronje show started. Tyron took a wicket in each of his four overs, first bowling Kamran for 7.
Zabiulla was the next to fall, caught by Cameron off the bowling of Tyron. Mfundo Khumalo fell next thanks to Braam and Ashfaq

Mohammed was dismissed three runs later. Paki Lions were now 77/6 in the 15th over and the pressure was starting to tell. Tyron then bowled the dangerous Jonathan Benjamin for a duck before Farhan was stumped thanks to Joff off the bowling of Braam.

At 96/8 with two overs remaining, Paki Lions still needed 22 runs to claim victory. But Braam and Tyron had other ideas, dismissing both Usman Zafar and Nawaaz in quick succession. Paki Lions were bowled out for 96 in the 19th over. Tyron finished with figures of 4/14 from 3.2 overs while Braam took 3/18 from 3 overs. Zabiulla top scored with 28 for Paki Lions but it was not enough to stop

Farmers from ploughing to victory.
