Mzomusha too strong for mighty Tigers

Mzomusha held on for a 2-1 win

The SAFA Endumeni Junior League took centre stage on Saturday morning when Mzomusha took on Tigers at the Oval.

The action packed encounter was a bit of a one-sided affair, with Mzomusha dominating early proceedings. They peppered the Tigers’ goalmouth with shots and soon took an early lead after a long range effort found the back of the net.

They continued on the offensive and their pressure soon paid off. They were awarded a penalty minutes before halftime after a Tigers’ defender handled the ball in the box. The penalty, though, was directed straight at the Tigers’ keeper, one of two girls in their team.

The second half started much like the first, with Mzomusha on the front foot. They soon scored their second from a shot that flew in straight from the corner. Not content with their two goal lead, Mzomusha pressed on for a third, but Tigers stood firm.

With ten minutes to go, they bundled the ball into the back of the net, setting up for a nervy end to the game.

With time running out, a well worked corner found its way to a Tigers’ midfielder, whose shot narrowly missed the target. The bare miss elicited a grown from the Tigers’ coach, who realised how close his team came to snatching a draw.

The game finished soon after, with Mzomusha holding on for a 2-1 win.
