League bowlers get down to business

After some keen competition, the winner of this year’s event was Team Putt Putts, with Ups and Downs in second place.

Another successful FedAuto Business League came to an end last week, with the finals between the two sections completed.

After some keen competition, the winner of this year’s event was Team Putt Putts, with Ups and Downs in second place.

Third place went to Team Melo’s and Team BI Agri-Smart finished fourth.

All teams thoroughly enjoyed themselves and most have indicated they will be back for the Spring League in October.

Newcastle Bowling Club President, Koen Pretorius thanked the sponsors for their continued generous support, and also Heather Gero and her SPCA team for the delicious meals prepared each evening.

The club’s Mixed Pairs competition was completed last weekend, with the final rounds played on Sunday.
In the semi-final games, Lou and Eleen Roux accounted for Trevor Moore and Denise Phillips, while Adrian and Vicky van der Merwe beat Fritz and Marie Botha.

The final provided the spectators with another nail-biting finish, with the game going to an extra end to decide the winner.

Adrian and Vicky won this extra end against their gallant opponents to lift the trophy.

Well done, all!

The 2019 Inter Districts competitions were played last week, with KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls (KZNCB) entering teams into all the sections.

The Open A Teams played in Johannesburg, the Open B Teams in Cape Town and the Senior Teams in the Sables District.

The Men’s B Team did exceptionally well this year, finishing in a respectable third place in its section.

All the other teams were competitive in most of their games and gained valuable experience playing at a higher level, against provincial bowlers from other districts.
