Wrestling Legends honoured in Orange Grove series
The participating wrestlers, who came from Vryheid, Newcastle, Volksrust, Richards Bay and Glencoe, showed that it was an honour to compete in this unique competition in honour of these fallen heroes
The normally quiet Glencoe Town Hall was turned into a raging battlefield recently as over 80 wrestlers from throughout KZN and Mpumalanga battled it out in the Orange Grove Legends series.
This was the first leg of the series that seeks to commemorate fallen wrestling heroes from the district.
“Klein Jan Combrink, Freddie Horn and Wayne Nel will be commemorated and celebrated in the 2019 wrestling season. These KZN wrestling greats will never be forgotten,” said coach, Steven Brown.
The participating wrestlers, who came from Vryheid, Newcastle, Volksrust, Richards Bay and Glencoe, showed that it was an honour to compete in this unique competition in honour of these fallen heroes. There was no lack of passion and commitment from the fighters.
“Wrestling of a high standard was the order of the day. Each wrestler had to finish four fights, to qualify for an award. Their endurance was really tested. Orange Grove Dairy spoiled participants with a special cup that made this exhausted fighters leave Glencoe with a smile,” remarked Steven.
The local boys proof their metal and show their class.
The tournament was hosted by the local Northern Natal Rhino wrestling club and chairman, Johan Stander, and his team excelled.
The following Northern Natal Rhino’s received cups for completing their four fights:
Tion Brown, Marcus Groenewald, Conner Cooper, Spoon, Nathan Gouws, Nathan Voster, Jayden Fritz, Dawie Botha, JC Botha, Werner Scheepers, Cluaine De Swart, Leonard Kruger, Ricky Basson, Keegan Basson, Joaquin Alant, Tristan Duvenage, Justin Duvenage, Theuns vd Merwe, Tiaan van Vuuren, and Johan Bezuidenhout.
