The Dundee Bowling Club hosted the Northern Zone Men’s and Ladies Pairs this past weekend. A total of 72 players, from Newcastle, Vryheid, Volksrust, Piet Retief and locally descended onto the Dundee greens to play in what turned out to be a fabulous bowling weekend.
The men were divided into five sections of four with the ladies divided into four sections of four.

Ron Howe and Tony De Pooter earned themselves the title of Northern Zone Men’s Pairs winners. They received their trophy from Dougie Slabbert (left) from the Dundee Bowling Club.

The semi-finalists were determined at the end of the day’s play on Saturday, with three Dundee ladies sides going through to play the semi-finals on Sunday morning.
In the end, it was Nan and Cheryl and Rita and Taryn who went through to play the ladies final on Sunday afternoon.
After a gruelling 15 ends, it was Nan and Cheryl who came out on top, beating Rita and Taryn 17-12 to take the title of Northern Zone Ladies Pairs winners.
In the men’s competition, it was Ron Howe and Tony De Pooter (Newcastle) in the final against the Van Vreden brothers from Piet Retief.
It was a case of experience prevailing over youth with Ron and Tony beating Brendon and Flippie 22-17, earning themselves the title of Northern Zone Men’s Pairs winners.
