Ladysmith snooker club shoots to the top

3 members have made it to the SA Inter-Provincial Championships

Snooker is a game all about strategy and taking your time.

“It’s a slow-paced game and has a lot of strategy involved. You really have to think of ways to outplay your opponent,” explains snooker player Jonty Muir matter-of-factly.

Ladysmith’s own snooker club, known as the Harold Muir Club, has taken the local sporting arena by storm, literally shooting their way through competitions.

The club has been in existence for four years now and has built up a strong team of 16 players.

There is a league that involves Ladysmith, Estcourt and Dundee.

The club began expanding its horizons when the players battled it out with one of the other clubs in a tournament in July that had members going to the SA’s. This motivated them to see how far they could go.

Three members have made it to the South African Inter-Provincial Championships, namely Jonty Muir, Mike Muir and Wayne Mann. They leave tomorrow (September 7) for Johannesburg, where the championships will be played at the Wanderers Club.

“It’s great that we have made it so far and we’d like to thank our sponsors for their support,” emphasised Jonty.

The club holds get-togethers twice a week and Jonty can be contacted for more information on 0833025660
