Over 600 wrestlers from South African and a team from Namibia are today and tomorrow competing on three mats in the impressive Durnacol sports complex as KZN Wrestling hosts the SA Wrestling Championships for those who are 15 years and older.
Steven Brown, local Rhinos Wrestling Club coach and chairman of KZN Wrestling, said the Durnacol complex which opened two years ago (and has been virtually undetected by all in Northern KZN) is an excellent venue for the occasion.
“All the facilities are here – it is modern and big enough to hold three mats and lots of seating,” he said. With Orange Grove one of the main sponsors and local wrestlers competing the championships certainly have a local flavour.
Wrestling continues today and tomorrow. The KZN team is having a hard time at the moment but Steven is confident that they will go home with some medals. Entry is free and lots to eat and drink and a chance to chat with top young proponents of this fine, ancient sport.
