In the only club game of the weekend, Aster and Colita played a Pro30 day game on Saturday.  Aster won the toss and elected to bowl first.

A decision that was vindicated as the Aster bowlers got into their work immediately and restricted the Colita batting line up to just 56 runs. Best bowlers for Aster were Liaan Lutchman with five for 15 runs and Brandon Richards with two for 10 runs.

At the change of innings anyone would have been forgiven for thinking that this was an easy run chase for Aster but this proved not to be the case. Some excellent bowling by the Colita opening bowlers of Amith Mangaroo and Suvedh Ramprith had the Aster batting in some real concern.

However, a fighting knock by stand-in captain Mitchell Anthony and Brandon Richards ensured that a nervy end went the way of Aster who won a tight game by four wickets.

Best bowlers for Colita were Amith with three wickets for seven runs in six overs and Suvedh with two wickets for 20 runs.

Sunday
Estcourt hosted Vryheid at the Lambert Park cricket grounds for the third inter town game of the season.  The Estcourt team lost the toss and were sent in to bat first.

After the loss of an early wicket, two of Estcourt premier batsmen, Sami and Mohammed Ali set a solid platform for the team with an excellent third wicket partnership, with both batsmen making their half centuries. Sami ending on 70 runs and Mohammed on 81.

With some excellent lower order contributions from Anas as well, the Estcourt team were eventually all out in the 48th over for an impressive score of 263. With this high run chase required, the Vryheid team were under some definite score board pressure prior to any ball being bowled.

This, coupled with a devastating opening spell by Estcourt’s Suvedh Ramprith who ripped through the Vryheid top order saw the visitors in some real trouble. Vryheid eventually being bowled out for a mere 95 runs.

Suvedh finishing with an impressive match haul of six wickets and was well supported by Anas with three wickets. This is the Estcourt’s team second victory in three games and they are well on target to reach the promotional play off for the KZN Inland Premier League.
