Newcastle Swimming Club is on a winning streak

These young swimmers would like to challenge the town to get out there and see how many lengths you can swim because the Chelmsford Challenge Open-water Swim is coming up in February.

VRYHEID – The Newcastle Swimming Club was on a winning streak this season. With hard work and dedication, the swimmers held their ground at the recent Short Course Gala in Vryheid on November 4 and 5.

The swimmers obtained excellent results. Participants included Kai Goosen, Handré du Preez, Shravan Goli, Erich van Zyle, Jared Scheepers, Cameron Fenton, Varish Ramauthur, Gustav Boshoff, Christiaan Visagie, Kelsey Kemp, Paula van Zyl, and Abigail Peters.

They were awarded medals for their performances and made the club proud. Abigail swam her heart out, and took home 10 gold medals, among others.

Abigail recently competed in the Lake Eland open-water swim, and achieved second place in both the one and three kilometre swims. She also qualified for the South African Open-Water Championships.

Kayla Pretorius and Amy Fraser swam the Capital K open-water at Midmar with some excellent results.

These are the children with swim-cap tans, green hair and goggle marks on their faces. While you relax next to the pool, they are swimming for kilometres, up and down, training hard for the next gala where they can make Newcastle proud.

These young swimmers would like to challenge the town to get out there and see how many lengths you can swim because the Chelmsford Challenge Open-water Swim is coming up in February and they would love to see more people joining them for a swim.
