Wrestle mania grips Newcastle

Four wrestling clubs took to the mats, to see who was the best.

BARRY HERTZOG – Newcastle Cougar’s Wrestling Club hosted the KwaZulu-Natal Regional Championships at Majuba College, Newtech Campus in Barry Hertzog Park on Saturday.

Four clubs took part, namely Richards Bay, Newcastle, Volksrust and Dundee.

Altogether 56 wrestlers took to the mats vying for the win.

“The championships is to see which club is the best and has the most champions in its ranks,” said Cougar’s couch, Danie de Wet.

Newcastle Cougars Wrestling Club did exceptionally well during the championships.

In the u/9 division, Jerome Swart obtained a gold. Amandus de Jager clinched a gold in the u/10 division, while Byrone Botha secured a silver and Cameron Boucher and Heno Horn both obtained a bronze.

Rourke Allkins was awarded a bronze in the u/11 division. Michael Redelinghuys got a gold in the u/13 division, while Kevin Britz got a silver.

Eric de Wet secured three gold medals in the u/15 division and Daniel Potgieter got one gold.

Sheldon Pienaar received three golds in the Cadette division, while Zander Horak obtained one gold. Christiaan Potgieter and Jeandre Horak both obtained silvers in the same division.

Danie de Wet and Liza Chan both obtained a gold in the senior division.

Danie de Wet continued showing his dominance on the mats, by receiving another gold in the Master’s division. Danie Swart also got a gold in the same division.
