NEWCASTLE – Pigeon fancier, Koos Ferreira continued his winning form on Saturday.
He took the top two positions in another Combine Race from Smithfield at the weekend, in an event which saw more than 6 000 pigeons released.
Newcastle Racing Pigeon Club members said the day was all clear skies.
Mr Ferreira reached high velocity with his young birds, to end ahead of Dolf Grimbeek in third, and claim the fourth spot ahead of Kiewiet Oosthuizen.
The old bird race was a different story altogether.
Renier van Niekerk impressed with a gold and silver finish, ahead of the seasoned Mr Ferreira in third and fifth.
Fourth position went to Johan Ferreira.
“Well done to all, with excellent results,” said race secretary, Danie van Niekerk. “We invite the community of Newcastle and surrounds to contact us, should they be interested in being part of this amazing family sport.”
