NEWCASTLE – Pigeon fanciers made a beeline for home at the weekend.
Although the weather was crisp, the truck stood ready to release the birds for the Bloemfontein 1 Race, which had pigeons in clear skies heading North West.

Members of the Newcastle Racing Pigeon Club watched in eager anticipation.
When all was said and done, the club congratulated Koos Ferreira for another superb victory, beating Renier van Niekerk and Gerhard van der Merwe home in the Young Bird division.
Gerhard ended tops in the Old Bird Race, fending off Koos’s pigeons.
“Well done to all for the outstanding results. We invite young and old who are interested in the sport, to join us this Thursday at 6pm,” said Race Secretary, Danie van Niekerk.
