The Newcastle Social Soccer League (NSSL) officially kicked off on Sunday with a tournament.

Taking place at Paradise Sports Grounds, eight participating teams were eager to clinch victory.

The teams were divided into Group A and Group B, ensuring the teams would be able to build up enough points to potentially secure first place in the tournament.

In the first match in the Group A division, Fairleigh Sparta faced Imbizo FC and the match proved to be one-sided. Despite Fairleigh Sparta’s best efforts, Imbizo FC walked away with a four-nil victory.

Stella FC then took on Newcastle Stars in an evenly matched game. The teams drew nil-nil.

The third match in the Group A division was between Fairleigh Sparta and Stella FC. Both teams were determined to secure a win, but it was Stella who emerged victorious, drubbing Fairleigh Sparta two-nil.

Newcastle Stars played an excellent game of football against Imbizo FC and took the lead in the first half, with a score of one-nil. However, Imbizo managed to score a goal, leaving the two teams drawing one-all.

In the Group B division, Siyahlahla beat Legends FC with a score of three-one.

Shining Stars then faced Siyahlahla, who was still running high with its win over Legends.

The match was a spectacular game, and the teams drew two-all.

Legends went up against Wycom in the hope of securing at least one win for the day. This, however, was not meant to be as Wycom defeated Legends three-one.

Wycom and Shining Stars faced each other, with both teams looking for a win. Shining Stars outplayed Wycom and walked off victorious, with a score of one-nil.

The tournament will continue on Sunday, June 12.

Stella FC will be playing against Imbizo, while Fairleigh Sparta will face Newcastle Stars in the Group A division.

In the Group B division, Wycom will battle it out with Siyahlahla, and Shining Stars will face Legends.

As the tournament comes to a close, NSSL league fixtures will kick off on June 19, and will run in conjunction with the NSSL night league, which will have its first game on Thursday, June 23.

The Newcastle Social Soccer League welcomes Wycom FC, Siyahlahla FC, Newcastle Stars from Hutten Heights and Shining Stars from Darul Uloom.

Madrid FC has also joined the NSSL ranks.
