Melton shines at monthly mug

Melton Schiever won the Lalparsad Inc. sponsored monthly mug despite carding a nine on the par five, fifth hole and some nerves on the closing holes.

In a press interview Melton said he nearly lost it but came back strongly on the back nine with a solid 40 to close on nett 68. On count out, Lional Laatz, who also by the way had to increase his bar space to display all his mugs, was kind enough to let others also win for a change and came second on nett 68.

Arnold Boettiger, yes not Gail, came third on nett 69 on count out from Paul Fick on nett 69. Closest pin number two sponsored by Gerry’s Motors went to Paddy Geraty, pin number three to Lional Laatz and the jackpot was won by Garth Fairfield.

Wednesday’s competition was won by Harry Koovarjee and Doc Chotu on 46, second on 45 were Bruce le Roux and Melton. Friday’s nine holes was won by the evergreen Uncle Ram on 19.

On Sunday, June 12 the St Gregory Golf Day will take place with a shotgun start at 9.30am with R8 000 worth of prizes, breakfast as well as a sheep on a spit. Don’t miss this day.
