While most 10-year-old boys are playing the latest console games, Thabo-Jan Ntjobokoane is speeding down race tracks.

He participated in his first go-cart race on November 28 at the Oval Track, where he clinched second place. An exceptional placing, considering it had been his first competitive race among some of the more seasoned go-cart racers.

However, despite Thabo-Jan’s nervousness on the night of his first race, where victory eluded him by mere centimetres, he is no stranger to fast riding.

He has a 50cc motorcycle, as well as a quad bike, both of which he enjoys riding on a regular basis.

“What is nice about the Oval Track, is that I don’t have to drive slowly and can really drive fast,” he laughed.

As a racing enthusiast, Thabo-Jan said he often went to the Oval Track with his father.

It was during one of the racing events it was decided that Thabo-Jan climb behind the steering wheel of a go-cart and tackle the daunting track.

“His godfather actually made a track for him while we lived in Khosi Bay, so he had an opportunity to train,” explained his father, Thabo.

While looking forward to the next racing event in January to sate his hunger for speed, Thabo-Jan said he did not want his love for motorsport to be restricted to Newcastle.

“I want to do it professionally; maybe one day I will race in Formula !,” he concluded.
