Vryheid Cricket Club – Freedom save the day in Dundee

LAST SUNDAY the Vryheid XI travelled to Dundee to play a friendly match against Dundee. Vryheid batted first and were in early trouble at 40/5, but thanks to a superb 103 from Freedom Buthelezi, and 48 from Juan Botha, Vryheid managed to reach a total of 233/10 in the 49th over.

Good bowling for Dundee came from Mfundo (8-0-30-3) and Haroon (4-0-2-20).

Vryheid then took to the field and bowled brilliantly dismissing Dundee for 110 in just 21 overs thanks to a fantastic 6 wicket haul from Andrew Brooks, returning with figures of 5-1-20-6. Jaco Grobbelaar also chipped in with figures of 7-1-27-2.

The only resistance from Dundee with the bat came from Mfundo 29 and Daniel 23.

Vryheid won by 113 runs. Well done boys!!

In our local Twenty/20 league Wicket Wasps played Gladiators on Sunday at Cecil Emmett Park.

Gladiators batted first and scored a modest 131/7 in the allotted overs. Freddie Stoltenkamp scored quick fire 66 and Wessel Vorster was the second highest runs scorer with a patient 40.

An impressive bowling spell from Connor High, claiming five scalps, ended with figures of 4-2-11-5. PJ du Toit was also in the wickets with 4-0-21-1.

In chasing, PJ du Toit played a captain’s innings and carried his bat and his team to victory scoring 52 not out.

Wicket Wasps reached the target in the 17th over for the loss of four wickets. Andre Ellis also scored an aggressive 30.

Best bowling for the Gladiators came from Thomas Bezuidenhout (4-0-39-3) and Joshua Stride (4-0-21-1).

Wicket Wasps won by 6 wickets.
