OH WOW, September was a busy month for Mountainbiking, and October has started well too!

After the Pmb Hill2Hill, quite a few Vryheid cyclists did the Three Reserves 73km in Swaziland. Sandra Haywood won the ladies challenge for the 2nd year in a row in a time of 3:07! Zauco van den Berg came 3rd in the mens race 2:57. Evy Haywood (3:19), Gerhard Engelbrecht (3:27) and Jabulani Xulu also took part in the event.

San and Evy’s daughters, Megan and Kayla also cycled the 20km events and Kayla took a category prize.

On October 3, many Vryheid cyclists took part in the NatalSpa Gooderson event. In the gruelling 40km event (950m ascent) Vryheid ladies took all three top positions in the ladies race. 1st Sandra Haywood, 2nd Lize Swanepoel and 3rd Ronell Keeve.

Other riders in the 40km were: Marius and Elize van Eden, Eugene Bosch, Theo Scheepers, Riaan Swanepoel, Martyn Beän Snr and Martyn Beän Jnr (well done FIRST half marathon mtb race), Zauco van den Berg, Gerhard Engelbrecht, Jacques Odendaal and Paul Marques.

We have great training rides in the mornings now as Amashova is looming, plus the Utrecht Bundu Bash and the Michaelis Challenge at Bloemveld dam on November 21. Get your entries in www.michaelischallenge.co.za

On October 9-11, four Vryheid teams took part in the famous Berg and Bush 3-day stage race starting in the Drakensberg.

The ‘Movers’ Zauco and Jacques 9:27 10th in category; Team ‘Fu king fast’ Evy and San 10:18 9th in category; Team ‘OBC’ Willem and Martyn 10:57 and Team ‘Happy couple’ Riaan en Lize 11:02 celebrated their anniversary on the tour!
