The Angling Professional League (APL) is set to host its inaugural open competition on November 29 at Sandford.

Traditionally, the open competitions are held overnight, however, the organisers had deliberated over the matter and decided on a day competition.

Matthew Shunmugam from APL claimed the organisers thought it would be more cost effective for patrons, as there would be no overnight fees.

Furthermore, the day competition would minimise any transgressions, which normally take place under the cover of darkness.

In the scaled category, the first prize will stand at R12 000, while second prize will be R6 000, third prize will be R3 000, fourth place will stand at R1 500 and the fifth place wil win R750. In the non-scaled category, the first place winner will receive R8 000, second place winner will take home R4 000, third prize will be R2 000, fourth prize R1 000 and the fifth place winner will receive R500.

The prizes include a microwave oven, fishing tackle, household appliances, cellular phones and motor vehicle accessories.

Also incorporated is a “skins” competition, carrying a prize tag of R4000 for both scaled and non-scaled category. This is a competition not to be missed by the serious or social angler.

The competition starts at 5.30am and the weigh-in closes at 4pm. The competition area starts from the Sandford Camping Area Gate and ends at Zone E at Sandford. The entrance fee is R150 per angler, which excludes gate fees. Queuing starts at the main gates. No observers are allowed and all persons entering the competition must produce a valid ticket.

Tickets are available from Mohamed Midas, Murchison Street Motors, Lennoxton Motors, Allys Butchery, Ismail’s Trading and Vees Extreme Tackle.
