Competition between Breakwaters and Stillwaters angling clubs are bringing out the best in members.

Anglers from both clubs were involved in an intense battle for the Champion of Champion title during the competition’s second round on September 13.

The standout anglers were Ossie Oosthuizen and Shane Mangaroo.

Bagging 12 points apiece, their fortunes were in contrast to the others, apart from Amith Datadin’s 5,47 kilogram barbel, Vicky Bhooli’s 840g scaly and young Ethan Burger’s kurper of 625g.

Ethan’s catch is the first in the history of the club, since establishment in 1991.

The top five anglers of the day were Ossie Oosthuizen and Shane Mangaroo on 12 points each, Nicky le Roux and Kaveer Singh on eight alike, and Terence Chetty on seven.

Last weekend also marked the internal singles and doubles knockout competitions launching.

With some fancied anglers falling by the wayside, the anglers topping the log include Ossie Oosthuizen on 17 points, Kaveer Singh on 15, and both Shakeel Sheik and Shane Mangaroo on 12.

Early title contenders are as follows:

Prenesh Pandoy bagged the heaviest scaled fish, weighing 2,76kg, while Amith Datadin is the heaviest non-scaled fish holder, for a catch of 5,47kg.

The heaviest scaly is presently held by Vicky Bhooli, bagging an 840g fish.

Ossie and Shane are tied as the highest points scorers, and are both in fierce contention for the title of Champion of Champion.

The League Champion title is tied between Kaveer, Shakeel and Kidd Rampersadh.

In the race for the year’s top junior angler, Ethan Burger leads Avi Buduram by two points, while Kidd is in pole position for their senior counterpart.

Ossie also leads the pack with 10 fish netted.

The next competition will be the VME League 3, taking place at Sandford on November 8, where Breakwaters and Challengers can consolidate their positions.
