Edrich out-classes a strong field on the mat

Dawie Botha and Theuns van Zyl's technical ability saw them beating their more fancied opponents on their way to earning gold medals.

The Orange Grove KZN wrestling open took place in Newcastle recently where wrestlers from Dundee, Glencoe, Volksrus, Vryheid, Richards Bay and Newcastle did battle on the mat. Wrestling of a high standard was on display and the local boys made their presence felt.
The Northern KZN Rhinos who stood out were the two De Bruin brothers from Volksrust who wrestled like old hands. Dawie Botha and Theuns van Zyl’s technical ability saw them beating their more fancied opponents on their way to earning gold medals.
Wrestler of the day, Edrich Nortje, wrestled in the 60kg weight division for boys U/15 . Out-classing a strong field of wrestlers, his speed, strength, conditioning and work rate made him unstoppable. The Northern KZN wrestlers are now preparing for the KZN Championships in Glencoe on September 26. Wrestling practice’s take place at Sarel Cilliers high school on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5.30pm to 7pm.
Reunion: All ex-wrestlers are invited to attend the KZN Championship on this day.
