Vryheid Rugby Club – Junior Murray Cup hopes dashed

THE Junior Murray Cup Semi Final matches took place on Saturday, August 22, in Richard’s Bay.

The second team faced Harlequins II, and were beaten 26 – 19 at the close of play. Mondo Msomi; Mxolisi Nkosi and Chris Pretorius scored a try each with two tries being converted by Sbonelo Mbatha.

Second team coach, Carel Burger, thanked the players for their hard work and commitment throughout the season.

The first team took to the field under the leadership of Captain, Wessie Van Der Westhuyzen.

Carel Holtzhauzen placed the ball over the try line three times throughout the match against host team, Richard’s Bay, and Pienaar Breytenbach scoring an additional two tries. Jandri Barnard added to Vryheid’s total by converting three of the five tries.

However, as luck would have it, Vryheid’s first team fell short of the host team’s final score by nine points, with the scoreboard showing 40 – 31 in favour of Richard’s Bay at the final whistle.
